My favorite classroom tool

So far in my Graduate class, I have been introduced to many technological tools.  My favorites, thus far, are Google Drive and Prezi.  I love Google Drive.  As you can see in my previous blogs.  Prezi is something that I'm looking forward to using as an alternative to Power Point.  My students have recently been doing presentations and every single Presentation thus far has been a Power Point Presentation.  Although Power Points are a good tool and have their place in the presenting world, a well thought out Prezi is so much more visually appealing.  I find it keeps the attention of the audience much better.  Last class, I briefly suggested Prezi to my students and I look forward to seeing if one of them decided to try it.  None of the students had heard of it so I won't be surprised if they are reluctant to use it.  I think I will develop a class which introduces them to Prezi and then requires them to do a presentation with Prezi.

  1. I like your post in how it addresses incorporating new tools into the classroom. I like the idea of developing a class that incorporates this in the classroom and I think its a little refreshing because in todays digital age.... I think even standard PPT's are getting outdated and aren't engaging anymore.

I think the more flare we can put around the core material, sparkles, hearts and stars and using the to grab their attention to get back to the main ideas of the lesson. geez... use it. Making things visually appealing is going to be the future for these kids. I'm interested to see how you implement these tools in your class in the future.

  2. I couldn't agree more. I really love all the Google web tools, especially Google Drive and Google Docs. They have some really great functions that would be useful for us with our classes, especially any graded classes. My favorite new toy so far has been Prezi as well. I'm definitely going to be introducing my students to it next semester on multiple occasions. I think it's something that will leave a more lasting impression on the students than the usual PowerPoint presentation. As Jon said, PPTs are getting stale, like much of the education world, and a program like Prezi might just provide enough visual stimulation to our students to keep their interest. I really can't wait to fully take advantage of it next semester!

  3. Scott, I agree with you that Prezi is more visually appealing and keeps the attention of the audience more so than PowerPoint. I have never used any kind of technology as part of my lessons. I feel that by using the whiteboard too often, I sometimes tend to lose the interest of my students. Therefore, starting next semester I plan to start using Prezi in my classroom.
